Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
