Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The effort aims to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the music world. All were part of the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The single features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The song is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
