Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
