New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.
“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police issued security footage Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.
“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd hasn’t played this season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.
He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.
Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
