President Trump Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident led the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
