The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
