The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
